History of Wild Rose Brewery

Wild Rose Brewery began operations in the fall of 1996 in Calgary's Foothills Industrial Park with a second-hand brewery and the will to make the wildest beer in Alberta.

Big Bottled Beer

Our original 'litre' beer bottles

After six years of modest growth, selling beer as a draught-beer-only brewery, we finally took the plunge into bottling in the summer of 2002, releasing four of our beers: WRaspberry Ale, Velvet Fog, Wild Rose Brown Ale, and Industrial Park Ale (IPA), in a sexy, one litre flip-top bottle.

The Flip-Top Goes Provincial

Shortly after the release of the one litre bottle, Wild Rose beers were not only finding a home in most liquor stores in Calgary, but soon popped up in most parts of the province, with more than 200 outlets carrying some, or all, of the beers by the summer of 2005.

As unique as the one litre bottle was, unfortunately it wasn't accepted by consumers in great enough numbers to warrant its continuation. Knowing that, the move to a standard bottle was imminent; it would eventually result in an increase in sales.

Growing Operations, Shrinking Bottles

We doubled our size by moving into the bay adjacent to our existing brewery and tripled our production abilities with the purchase of a new brewhouse and an automated bottling line.

Forecasting significant response to the user-friendly six-pack we were pleasantly pleased when we exceeded our projections by 50%.  To that we say, thank you!

Our Move to the Calgary Farmers' Market

With the understanding that even more space and equipment were required to respond to the growing demand in Alberta, in the fall of 2006, we moved the Wild Rose Brewery to our current location across from the Calgary Farmers' Market - on the Currie Barracks off Crowchild Trail.

Celebrate Our Success With Us

We are proud of our history as a survivor in the one of the most competitive beer markets in Canada, and believe (with an understandable bias) that we have in fact achieved our goal of brewing some of the best beers that Alberta has to offer.

Come join us at our new location and see if you agree. If you've already enjoyed our popular bottled beer, then try our special on-tap ales, available in our unique Taproom and at select bars and restaurants.

The Next Chapter

Spring 2008 - Wild Rose will be lauching new packaging for our six pack boxes. Keep an eye out for the new look; we're sure proud of it, and we hope you will be too.

Cheers!
